ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Wednesday that Pakistan and China share a “converging vision” on regional and global matters.
He addressed the senate, where a Chinese delegation attended to mark 75 years of diplomatic ties.
Dar said, “We are committed to upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter in a world facing complex challenges.”
He highlighted that Pakistan and China work together at the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and other international forums. This cooperation defends developing countries’ interests and promotes global peace.
Dar announced he will join Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on a state visit to China from May 23 to 26. They will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.
The visit will include business to business meetings and sessions under the Pakistan, China political forum and the CPEC joint consultative mechanism. A large multi-party Pakistani parliamentary delegation will attend.
Dar highlighted joint efforts by Pakistan and China to promote peace in the Gulf and Middle East.
He said, “We came up with a five point initiative for a peace plan, and dozens of countries have endorsed it.”
He added that he has kept “constant touch” with China’s FM Wang Yi during the Middle East conflict following US, Israeli strikes on Iran.

Dar recalled that the Pak, China relationship has “grown from strength to strength” over the past 75 years. He highlighted the Karakoram Highway, Gwadar Port, and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as symbols of friendship.
CPEC has transformed Pakistan’s economy. Dar said the next phase, CPEC 2.0, will focus on industrialization, agriculture, IT, and social development.
Dar praised China’s help in ending Pakistan’s energy crisis in 2013. He said, “China gave massive support in eliminating outages and load shedding. We will always remain grateful.”
The Foreign Office stated Dar “reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepen cooperation in politics, economy, strategy, and people to people exchanges.”
He highlighted the shared resolve to carry this friendship forward for future generations.
A Chinese delegation led by Cai Dafeng, vice chairman of the 14th National People’s Congress, arrived in Islamabad earlier this week. They will attend 75th-anniversary celebrations from May 20-21.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said, “Few friendships between nations carry the confidence and consistency seen between Pakistan and China. It has been tested by time and circumstances, and it has never wavered.”
