Web Desk: Veteran Pakistani actor Mustafa Qureshi has shared a heartfelt message on national identity and the true meaning of freedom, recalling his childhood memories linked to the independence movement.
Speaking at a special gathering held to commemorate Independence Day, Qureshi reflected on the passion and patriotic spirit that swept through the youth during the time of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's leadership. With visible emotion, he described how, as a young schoolboy, he would take to the streets waving the Pakistani flag and chanting “Pakistan Zindabad.”
He admitted that while children at the time were full of patriotic enthusiasm, they didn’t fully comprehend what freedom meant. “As children, we were filled with a desire for independence, but we didn’t truly understand the difference between slavery and freedom,” he said. “Under British rule, we didn’t even know what it felt like to be free.”
Qureshi emphasized that it was Quaid-e-Azam who awakened the nation to the value of freedom and helped people realize that liberty is not just a word it’s a blessing earned through sacrifice.
He also spoke about the role of art and culture in strengthening national spirit. As an artist, he considers it his responsibility to contribute to national awareness and unity through his work.
Concluding his address, Mustafa Qureshi paid tribute to fellow artists who have used their talent and voice to promote patriotism and keep the spirit of independence alive. His reflections served as a reminder that the freedom we enjoy today is deeply rooted in the struggles of the past and that it's now up to each citizen to honor and protect it.
