UNITED NATIONS: Former Foreign Minister and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called on the United States to facilitate a comprehensive dialogue between India and Pakistan to resolve all outstanding issues.
His remarks came during a meeting with the acting U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Dorothy Shea, where recent developments in South Asia were discussed.
Leading a nine-member high-level parliamentary delegation, Bilawal emphasized the importance of addressing India’s decision to suspend the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, warning that such actions equate to the “weaponization of water,” according to a statement from the Pakistan Mission to the UN.
The visiting delegation includes three former foreign ministers, two former foreign secretaries, two former ambassadors to the U.S., and a serving federal minister. They arrived in New York over the weekend for consultations at the United Nations.
During the meeting with the US envoy, Bilawal expressed gratitude to the U.S. Administration, in particular President Donald Trump for facilitating the ceasefire between Pakistan and India.
He briefed Ambassador Shea on the developments following the Pahalgam attack of 22 April 2025, expressing deep concern over India’s immediate attribution of blame to Pakistan without any credible investigation or verifiable evidence.
The delegation leader emphasized that such premature and baseless allegations exacerbate tensions and undermine prospects for constructive dialogue and peace. Pakistan, he said, had been at the forefront in the fight against terrorism and has made big sacrifices in this fight.
