Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik reveals details on “Bhediya 2” and the Maddock Universe

Amar Kaushik took cinemas by storm with the success of his latest release, “Stree 2”, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor. Recently, the director stated that he has no plans to include Roohi in his Maddock Supernatural Cinematic Universe. He also noted that the release date for “Bhediya 2” might change due to VFX and other technical issues. However, he assured fans that the film will be released in cinemas soon.

The director of “Stree 2” has made a significant impression in Bollywood with his successful and unique films. He has established the Maddock Supernatural Universe in collaboration with producer Dinesh Vijan. Recently, he sat down for a conversation with “Men on Culture” and shared exclusive details about the universe.

One of the most beloved films in this cinematic universe is “Bhediya”, which stars Varun Dhawan in the lead role. Released in 2022, the film is based on local folklore from Arunachal Pradesh about a shape-shifting werewolf. Critics praised the film, and audiences loved it as well. Additionally, its characters appear in “Stree 2” as part of the same universe. Since then, fans have eagerly awaited the sequel. An earlier report indicated that production for the film will begin in early 2025.

In his recent conversation, Amar Kaushik provided more details, stating, "Bhediya 2 will come soon, and the release dates might change due to VFX and other considerations. However, it will be released. The concept isn't fully ready yet, but we do know what will happen, who will be involved, and who the villain is."

When asked whether the film “Roohi” (2021), starring Jahnvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, is part of their cinematic universe, Amar Kaushik denied the possibility for now. He explained, “Roohi isn't a part of it because I wasn't heavily involved in its making. I was busy filming “Bala” at that time, so unless I feel that a double role is needed for Raj, it won't be included."

On the work front, Amar Kaushik most recently produced the film “Munjya” and directed “Stree 2”.
