Over the past 41 hours, Türkiye has been hit by several earthquakes, the strongest one measuring 6.2 in magnitude.
The first quake happened on Wednesday and was quite shallow, only 10 kilometers deep. After that, there were multiple aftershocks, including one measuring 4.9 in the Sea of Marmara and another at 5.3 in Istanbul.
Türkiye’s emergency management agency, said the main earthquake's epicenter was near Silivri in Istanbul province and occurred at a depth of 12 kilometers. No tsunami warning has been given, and teams are currently checking for damage.
People in nearby countries like Greece, Italy, Portugal, and France also felt the shaking, and regional alerts were issued. This is the seventh earthquake in Türkiye in less than two days, showing a rise in seismic activity in the region.
So far, there have been no reports of injuries or deaths, but authorities are staying alert as aftershocks continue to happen across several areas.
Türkiye is located on active fault lines and often experiences earthquakes. These recent events have raised concerns about how ready the country is, especially in big cities like Istanbul, in terms of safety and infrastructure.
Emergency teams are prepared to respond, and the government is asking people to be careful and to follow official safety instructions.
