The Thailand government has clarified that no changes have been made to its visa-free tourist policy, confirming that the current 60-day visa-free stay remains in effect.
According to sources, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that no new regulations have been implemented, and tourists can continue to enjoy the existing visa exemptions.
Ministry spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura assured that while the government is reviewing its tourism policies, there are no immediate changes. The review is part of broader efforts to enhance security and curb illegal activities in key tourist hubs such as Phuket, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Koh Samui, and Bangkok.
This clarification follows reports suggesting a possible reduction of the visa-free stay period from 60 days to 30 days. Authorities have expressed concerns about foreigners engaging in unauthorized work or business activities without proper permits, questioning the economic impact of extended stays.
Last year, Thailand extended the visa-free stay for citizens of 93 countries to 60 days to boost tourism and economic growth. However, feedback from travel operators suggests that most visitors stay for no more than 21 days.
The government continues to assess the advantages and drawbacks of the current visa policy as discussions progress.
Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Embassy in Pakistan recently introduced an e-visa system to simplify travel for Pakistani citizens. This system eliminates the need for in-person visits, allowing applicants to submit their documents online.
