Israel and Hamas will begin indirect negotiations in Egypt today, that the US hopes will bring a halt to the war in Gaza.
The negotiations are being mediated by Egypt and Qatar, with the United States playing a behind-the-scenes role.
According to sources, the discussions are focused on setting conditions for a possible exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners.
The talks are based on a 20-point peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, with Hamas reportedly agreeing to several key points, including the gradual release of hostages.
The Hamas delegation is led by Khalil al-Hayya, who recently survived an Israeli targeted attack.
Meanwhile, Egyptian and Qatari officials are holding separate meetings with both delegations in hopes of finalizing the first phase of the agreement within this week.
At the same time, Israeli airstrikes on Gaza continue, with at least 24 more Palestinians killed in the past 24 hours.
Human rights organizations and the United Nations are urging both sides to agree to an immediate ceasefire.
