iOS 18: Everything you need to know

iOS 18: Everything you need to know

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg suggests that iOS 18 could potentially be one of Apple's most revolutionary updates yet, especially with its inclusion of new AI functionalities.

Traditionally, Apple unveils its latest iOS iteration at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, followed by a beta testing phase for developers and the general public, leading up to its official release in September alongside new iPhone models. While this year's release schedule for iOS 18 is expected to follow a similar pattern, there are indications that this update may diverge significantly from past iterations.

Although rumors and leaks hint at iOS 18 being a landmark update for iPhones, it's essential to recognize that these details are speculative and subject to change before the final version is unveiled.

OS 18 update

Recent updates as of March 25 include a report that Apple may use AI technology from Baidu for features specific to China. Also, it’s rumoured that users might gain more flexibility in arranging their Home screen icons.

iOS 18 release date

Historically, Apple has released new iOS versions in September, usually in the second or third week. Here are the release dates for the past five years for reference:

-iOS 17: September 18, 2023

-iOS 16: September 12, 2022

-iOS 15: September 20, 2021

-iOS 14: September 16, 2020

-iOS 13: September 19, 2019

Post-WWDC in June, Apple usually releases a developer beta, followed by a public beta in early July. The main release typically occurs in September.

iOS 18 compatibility:

Although specific details on compatibility are unavailable, it is anticipated that devices compatible with iOS 17 will also support iOS 18. This includes a range of devices from the iPhone XR and XS to the 2nd-generation iPhone SE, as well as the latest iPhone models.

iOS 18 features: What to expect

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman suggests that iOS 18 might be one of Apple's most innovative updates, particularly with new AI features.

-Siri and AI integration: Siri is supposed to receive a significant advancement with advanced AI, potentially marking a significant shift in its skills.

-AI features across Apple products: Expect AI integrations in various applications like Apple Music, Xcode, and more, with a blend of on-device and cloud-based processing.

-More customisable home screen: Rumors suggest that Apple may allow users more control over the assignment of Home screen icons.

-RCS support: Apple might introduce RCS support to the iPhone, enhancing messaging features with Android devices.

-New accessibility features: iOS 18 may include advanced accessibility features, like Adaptive Voice Shortcuts and Live Speech enhancements.

-Influence from Vision Pro: Essentials from Apple's visionOS might make their way into iOS 18, possibly carrying substantial interface changes.

Remember, these are created on leaks and rumours, and the final structures of iOS 18 could vary.
