Peshawar Zalmi breaks record for most PSL finals

With this victory, Zalmi secured a place in the final for the fifth time in PSL history.

KARACHI: Peshawar Zalmi has become the team with the most appearances in Pakistan Super League finals after defeating Islamabad United by 70 runs in the PSL 11 qualifier at the National Stadium Karachi.

With this victory, Zalmi secured a place in the final for the fifth time in PSL history, setting a new record in the tournament.

Previously, Peshawar Zalmi had reached the finals in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021, winning the title in 2017.

In comparison, Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators, and Multan Sultans have each played four PSL finals, while Islamabad United has reached three finals and Karachi Kings have made just one final appearance.

While Peshawar Zalmi have received another major boost ahead of the PSL 11 Final, as Bangladeshi fast bowler Naheed Rana is set to rejoin the squad after being issued a fresh No Objection Certificate (NOC).

According to reports, the Bangladesh Cricket Board initially allowed Rana to participate in the league until April 13, after which he was recalled due to workload management concerns.

However, the board has now granted him permission to feature in the PSL final scheduled for May 3, allowing him to represent Peshawar Zalmi once again.

Officials stated that the decision was made considering the importance of the franchise final, and both the team management and medical staff have declared the player fully fit.

The board also assured that his participation will not negatively impact his fitness or international commitments.

Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi expressed gratitude to Bangladesh Cricket Board President Tamim Iqbal for facilitating the clearance.

Rana has been in impressive form, taking seven wickets in four matches for Zalmi. He also delivered notable performances against New Zealand and is expected to remain available for upcoming Test series against Pakistan.
