Pakistan clinches Tri-Series victory at home, political leaders applaud team

President Zardari and PM Shehbaz Sharif extend heartfelt congratulations

Rawalpindi: President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and prominent political figures extended heartfelt congratulations to the Pakistani cricket team after their stunning victory in the home-hosted T20I tri-series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday night.

Pakistan chased down a target of 115 runs in just 19 overs, despite losing four wickets. Key contributions came from Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan, who laid the foundation with a crucial 46-run partnership, followed by impactful innings from Babar Azam and captain Salman Agha that sealed the win.

President Zardari praised the players’ dedication, discipline, and exceptional performance, noting that their efforts filled the nation with pride. He also acknowledged the commendable performance of the Sri Lankan and Zimbabwean teams.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif applauded the team’s achievement while appreciating the participation of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in the series.

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted Pakistan’s outstanding teamwork throughout the tournament.

Former Finance Minister termed the current squad as the “perfect build-up for the T20I World Cup.”

Former batter Umar Akmal also lauded the team’s consistent performance.

In today’s match, despite a mid-innings wobble, Pakistan comfortably crossed the finish line in the 19th over. Babar Azam remained unbeaten on 37 off 34 balls, including two fours and a six, while Usman Khan added three crucial runs, securing a memorable six-wicket victory for the home side.

Batting first, Sri Lanka started steadily, with openers Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara adding 20 runs for the first wicket.
