Mohammad Amir, a fast bowler from Pakistan, has received a warning from the Pakistan Cricket Board for endorsing surrogate betting companies, as reported by a local newspaper on Wednesday.

This news follows Amir’s recent reversal of his retirement and his appearance in a social media post from a betting company.

The PCB has informed Amir of the prohibition on signing contracts with betting companies, hence he should refrain from participating in any such promotions.

Following the PCB’s directives, Amir has notified the board that his contract with the betting company was signed prior to his retirement reversal, but his images will no longer be used for promotional purposes.

It’s worth noting that Amir faced backlash on social media after he was seen endorsing a betting company.

Sources reveal that Amir’s one-year contract with the betting company, which included 60 social media posts, was valued at Rs12.5 million.

Amir, along with Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt, was banned from international cricket for five years by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in a spot-fixing case in 2010.

Amir also served half of a six-month sentence in young offenders institutes in Feltham and Dorset.

Upon his return in 2016, the 31-year-old contributed to Pakistan’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, where the Men in Green defeated their arch-rivals India in the final by 180 runs.

Amir is renowned for his remarkable spell in the final where he took out India’s top order, including Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli.

However, the left-arm bowler announced his international retirement at the age of 28 in December 2020, citing mental torture and dissatisfaction with the management.

Nevertheless, Amir reversed his retirement decision ahead of the upcoming series against New Zealand and was included in the national squad.

Pakistan and New Zealand are scheduled to play three T20Is at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on 18, 20, and 21 April. Subsequently, both teams will relocate to Lahore to play the remaining two T20Is of the series on 25 and 27 April, respectively.

Amir’s cricket career includes 36 Tests, 61 One-Day Internationals, and 50 T20s for Pakistan.
