Speaking on a sports talk show, Amir praised Virat Kohli as the greatest batter of the current generation and dismissed comparisons with any contemporary players, including Babar Azam, Steve Smith, and Joe Root.
"Virat Kohli is the greatest player of this generation, I laugh when comparisons are made between him and Babar Azam, Steve Smith, or Joe Root," Amir stated.
"We cannot compare Virat Kohli to anyone because he has won so many matches for India, which seems impossible for any one player. Not just in one format, but in all three formats, Virat is the greatest batsman of this generation."
Highlighting Kohli’s unmatched consistency and versatility, Amir lauded his contributions across all formats. "He has single-handedly won numerous matches for India, a feat difficult for any player to replicate. Across all three formats, Kohli is undoubtedly the greatest," he remarked.
The former left-arm pacer also credited Kohli’s extraordinary comeback after a tough England tour in 2014 as a testament to his dedication. “Kohli’s work ethic sets him apart. His revival after that tough phase and the decade of brilliance that followed is nothing short of remarkable,” he added.
Reflecting on the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final, Amir emphasized Kohli’s importance to India’s success. "If Virat had not been dismissed, we would have lost the final because we all know how exceptional Virat’s record is while chasing runs." Amir concluded.
