Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Lahore and parts of Punjab from Thursday night through Saturday, providing relief from the heat. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reports that most of Pakistan is experiencing continental air, with a westerly wave expected to enter the upper and central parts of the country on Friday evening and Saturday.
This weather system will bring partly cloudy conditions with rain, wind, and thunderstorms to areas like Murree, Galyat, and their surroundings on Thursday night. Isolated rain and thunderstorms are forecasted for Lahore and the Pothohar region.
On Friday and Saturday, rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in several areas including Murree, Galyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Khushab, Nupur Thal, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, and Narowal. There is a possibility of isolated hailstorms during this period. Light rain and thunderstorms may occur in isolated areas of Faisalabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Leyah, and Bahawalpur.
This wet spell is expected to bring temperatures back to normal levels over the weekend. During the week, temperatures in the plains of Punjab were 3-5 degrees Celsius above normal.
In Lahore, maximum temperatures are forecasted to range between 39-41°C on Friday and Saturday. However, a heatwave persisted in Lahore and most parts of the province in the past 24 hours, with Dera Ghazi Khan recording the highest temperature at 46°C. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 14% in Dera Ghazi Khan and 31% in Lahore.
