The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts substantial rainfall with snowfall in various regions of Pakistan from January 31 to February 4. A weather system influenced by a westerly wave will persist until February 4, causing intermittent rains and mountain snowfalls.
In Balochistan, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Chagi, and other areas may experience rain with isolated heavy falls and snowfall on hills on February 2nd and 3rd. In Gilgit Baltistan/Kashmir, regions such as Gilgit, Skardu, Muzaffarabad, and Neelum Valley may witness moderate to heavy rain and snowfall with occasional breaks from January 31 to February 4.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can expect moderate to heavy rain and snowfall in places like Chitral, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and others from January 31 to February 4, with occasional breaks. In Punjab/Islamabad, Murree, and Galliyat may experience rain with moderate/heavy rain or snow from January 31 to February 1 and on February 3rd and 4th, with occasional breaks.
Light to moderate rain is expected in various parts of Punjab/Islamabad, including Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Lahore, and others from January 31 to February 1 and on February 3rd and 4th. Sindh may see light to moderate rain in Sukkur, Karachi, and other areas on February 2nd and 3rd, while other parts of the province can expect cold and partly cloudy weather.
Possible impacts and advises:
Heavy rainfall may cause flash flooding in local nullahs of Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Dalbandin and Khuzdar on the 02nd and 03rd of February.
Moderate to isolated heavy rain/snowfall may cause landslides and closure of roads in Murree, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Haveli on 31st January & 01st February.
Tourists are advised to remain cautious during the spell.
Rain may be beneficial for the standing crops, particularly in Barani areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Foggy conditions are likely to subside significantly during the period.
