On Monday, the Punjab government installed 30 advanced air quality monitors across the province's major cities, including Lahore.
This initiative is part of a broader digital transformation project led by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aimed at enhancing environmental monitoring and public health.
The newly introduced air quality monitoring system is designed to provide real-time data on pollution levels in various cities.
Monitors have been set up in Lahore and other key urban centers, with plans for additional installations in the coming months.
Lahore, which has struggled with high air pollution levels, now has eight functioning monitors, significantly expanding the city’s environmental monitoring capabilities.
Senior Provincial Minister Mariam Aurangzeb announced that the second phase of the project will see the installation of 25 more monitors across several cities, including Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Rawalpindi, Multan, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Bahawalpur.
By the end of this month, Sargodha and DG Khan are also expected to have their own air quality monitors.
Specific locations in Lahore, such as THQ Kahna, Jaya Bhaga Police Station, Teaching Hospital Shahdara, and Punjab University, have already been equipped with these new monitoring systems. Additional monitors have also been activated in key areas like Barki Road, PKLI, and UET.
