LAHORE: PML-N leader Ata Tarar on Monday announced during a press conference that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has secured a simple majority in Punjab to establish its government. He highlighted that the party has emerged as the largest political entity in the region, with additional members joining its ranks.
Tarar noted that six MPAs have recently joined PML-N, bringing the party's total count in the Punjab Assembly to 146. He anticipated that this number would rise to 150 by the end of the day, meeting the required threshold for forming a government in Punjab.
Tarar mentioned that PML-N plans to finalize the selection of the prime minister after consulting with other parties, including the People’s Party and the MQM. He emphasized ongoing discussions with various political entities for the formation of the federal government.
Despite some setbacks, including defeats suffered by notable figures like Javed Latif, Shaikh Rohail Asghar, Khawaja Saad Rafique, and Rana Sanaullah, in the elections, Tarar stressed that PML-N accepts the election results gracefully. He reiterated PML-N's status as the leading party in Punjab and at the national level, expressing confidence in the establishment of a PML-N government in Punjab.
Furthermore, the addition of five independent candidates, including Sardar Shamsher Mazari, Imran Akram, Sohail Khan, Khizar Hussain Mazari, and Sahibzada Muhammad Gazain Abbasi, who joined PML-N on Monday, was highlighted. PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif welcomed these newly elected members into the party during the event.
