The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning of potential flash flooding in various regions of Balochistan due to expected rainfall on Saturday night and Sunday.
The areas at risk include Chaghi, Nokundi, Kharan, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, and Quetta, as stated in the PMD update. The department also highlighted concerns about possible traffic disruptions caused by road closures and slippery conditions in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, and Qilla Saifullah. Residents and travelers are advised to exercise caution and stay informed about weather developments.
The PMD urged residents to take necessary precautions for their safety during the unpredictable weather. The ongoing weather conditions are attributed to a westerly wave.
From January 18 to 20, moderate rain and windstorms are expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chagi, Noushki, Kalat, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Harnai, Zhob, Musakhel, Kharan, Kech, Panjgur, and Gwadar, with occasional breaks.
The PMD also refuted social media rumors from January 14 that claimed the country would experience the coldest weather in its history over the next four days following snowfall in parts of Saudi Arabia.
On Sunday, the weather is expected to remain cold and dry in most areas, with severe cold in higher regions. Rain and snowfall, along with strong winds, are predicted in northwestern Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, the Pothohar region, Kashmir, Murree, and Galyat. Moderate to dense fog is expected in many districts of Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the early morning and nighttime hours.
In the past 24 hours, the weather has remained cold and dry in most of the country, with severe cold in mountainous regions and partial cloudiness. Moderate to dense fog was reported in many parts of Punjab and upper Sindh.
Minimum temperatures recorded today (Saturday) include: Leh at -11°C, Skardu at -9°C, Gupis at -7°C, Astor and Qalat at -6°C, Rawalakot and Kalam at -4°C, and Malam Jabba and Hunza at -3°C.
