New York: At the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Pakistan’s Counsellor at the UN Mission in New York, Saima Saleem, delivered a strong and detailed response to India’s representative, dismantling New Delhi’s false narrative.
In her powerful address, Saleem exposed India’s policies of state-sponsored terrorism, human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), and breaches of the Indus Waters Treaty.
She criticized India for hiding behind the claim of being the “world’s largest democracy” while in reality, pursuing state-backed extremism, minority oppression, and aggression both domestically and regionally.
Saima Saleem stressed that India’s financial and military support to proxy networks such as TTP and BLA has caused the deaths of thousands of innocent Pakistanis, targeting places of worship, schools, and workplaces.
Reiterating Pakistan’s demand for an impartial investigation into the Pahalgam incident, she said India’s refusal to allow transparent inquiries shows it has much to conceal. She also referred to alleged Indian military actions between May 7–10, 2025, which killed civilians, with evidence documented by the international community.
Highlighting violations of the Indus Waters Treaty, she accused India of weaponizing water by effectively suspending the agreement, depriving millions of Pakistanis of their right to life and threatening regional peace.
On Kashmir, she detailed ongoing abuses: enforced disappearances, fake encounters, mass graves, and sexual violence. She condemned illegal demographic changes and heavy military deployment, reminding that UNSC resolutions recognize Kashmir as a disputed territory that must be resolved through a UN-supervised plebiscite.
Saleem urged the global community to expose India’s double standards, end its occupation, and support Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. She emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and international law but affirmed that the country would not hesitate to defend its sovereignty and people.
She concluded with a call for justice and principled action from the international community, hoping it would contribute to lasting peace in South Asia.
