Pakistan said that Iran was interested in sourcing up to 60 percent of its meat imports from Pakistan, as the two countries agreed to accelerate implementation of existing agriculture trade commitments and expand cooperation in livestock, food security and farm trade.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic ties and turning existing agreements into practical benefits for farmers, traders, and consumers.
During the meeting, Rana Tanveer Hussain recalled his visit to Iran in 2025, where both sides agreed to increase bilateral trade in important agricultural products. He noted that Iran had shown interest in importing Pakistani rice, mangoes, and meat, adding that Pakistan is capable of supplying high-quality products to the Iranian market.
The Iranian agriculture minister said Tehran plans to import meat from Pakistan and believes the country can meet up to 60 percent of Iran’s total meat import needs. He praised the quality of Pakistani livestock products and emphasized the importance of establishing efficient trade mechanisms to ensure a reliable supply.
The two sides also reviewed progress on previous agreements and decided that commitments outlined in the joint communiqué would be implemented within the next two months. Relevant authorities were instructed to speed up procedures and address obstacles affecting trade growth.
The Iranian minister appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability and thanked the government for supporting efforts aimed at improving regional cooperation and understanding.
He also noted that a bilateral committee had already been formed and stressed the need to make it fully active so that agreed objectives could be achieved effectively.
Both countries agreed to hold regular committee meetings and strengthen coordination between technical experts and relevant institutions.
Rana Tanveer Hussain said stronger agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and Iran would help improve regional food security, attract investment, encourage technology transfer, and support sustainable economic growth.
The two ministers expressed satisfaction with the positive direction of Pakistan-Iran relations and agreed to continue working closely to expand agricultural trade, encourage private-sector participation, and improve connectivity between the two neighboring countries.
