ISLAMABAD: The National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) has issued a security alert, warning of a potential terrorist threat from the Fitna-al-Khwarij group during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest scheduled for November 24.
NACTA has urged provincial governments to enforce strict security measures, cautioning that the Khwarij group might attempt terrorist attacks during the protest. The alert also raised concerns about the possibility of Khwarij militants crossing into Pakistan from Afghanistan, potentially targeting major cities.
Despite the security warnings, the PTI has confirmed that the protest will proceed as planned. Large convoys from various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are expected to depart for Islamabad by 10 a.m., with KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur overseeing coordination efforts. He is also likely to lead one of the convoys, which will include a significant number of party workers.
Meanwhile, it has been clarified that Bushra Bibi, the wife of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, will not participate in any of the rallies or protests. On November 23, following a political committee meeting, the PTI reaffirmed its decision to move forward with the November 24 protest, describing it as a peaceful movement.
The PTI announced that convoys from across Pakistan would converge in Islamabad to continue the protest until their demands are met. These include the release of detained leaders, workers, and the party’s founder, the repeal of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, and the restoration of what they call the "real mandate" from the February 8 elections. The committee also expressed concern over the worsening economic conditions and the rising incidents of terrorism in the country.
