Islamabad: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari issued a stern warning on Monday regarding the escalating violence and aggression in the Middle East and South Asia. Citing the international community's silence on Israeli actions against Iran, Bilawal emphasized that regional instability could spiral into a global conflict if urgent action is not taken.
During a session of the National Assembly, Bilawal invoked the famous poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller, stating, “First, they came for the Palestinians, but the world did not speak out. Then they came for the Lebanese, then the Yemenis, and now they are targeting Iran. If we do not speak out now, there will be no one left when they come for us.” He warned that Israel's ongoing military operations and the threat of wider war risk dragging the entire region—and potentially the world—into a devastating conflict.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that they strongly condemn the attacks on Iran's nuclear sites. Israel attacked Iran based on false accusations, and we condemn this. Iran's sovereignty has been violated; Iran's military leadership was targeted not on the battlefield but in their homes. Iranian scientists were targeted as well. The biggest violation is the attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.
The PPP leader highlighted the dangerous trajectory of the Israeli regime's actions, which he described as genocidal and capable of igniting World War III. He called for immediate international intervention to halt the aggression and prevent a catastrophic escalation.
Bilawal also addressed Pakistan’s recent diplomatic efforts following the recent military confrontation with India, which culminated in a ceasefire brokered by the United States.
He claimed that Pakistan had achieved significant military, diplomatic, and narrative victories over India and emphasized the importance of standing firm on the issue of Kashmir. He criticized India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, warning that any attempt to divert Pakistan’s water resources would be met with the threat of war.
He further asserted that India had lost the narrative war on terrorism, citing failed attempts by India to label Pakistan as a terrorist state and accusing domestic political parties of trying to sabotage Pakistan’s economic stability.
In his speech, Bilawal also warned India against further violations of the Indus Waters Treaty, stating, “Pakistan will go to war if necessary to defend its water rights.” His remarks came amid opposition protests in the assembly, which he dismissed, asserting that the public’s awareness was more important than political disruptions.
