KARACHI: Energy experts have termed the government’s announced “Electricity Package” a big relief for domestic, industrial and commercial consumers.
Talking to Bol News, energy experts Muhammad Khalid Waleed and Mohammad Arif have said that the government has provided big relief up to Rs26 per unit across the board which will increase the production of industries and cater great respite to inflation-hit domestic consumers.
Energy expert Muhammad Khalid Waleed observed that the demand for electricity decreases in winter and relief has been given to the public to increase the demand for electricity.
He said that people need to be informed that they should increase the use of electricity instead of gas in the kitchen. If they use electric stoves, the citizens and the government can benefit only in this way, he added.
The export said that the domestic consumers would get a cheap electricity up to Rs 26.7 per unit for their power consumption surpassing 200 units of the protected category and it would help them to save Rs11.42 to Rs 26 per unit in the three months of winter.
Waleed said that through this package, the present government has achieved a milestone in the power sector and termed it a revolutionary step which would bring economic stability in the country.
Energy expert Mohammad Arif also praised the government's initiative and said that domestic consumers will benefit only when they increase the consumption of electricity whereas industrial and commercial users will benefit greatly from it as well.
He said the package would not only provide relief to domestic consumers but also enhance the industrial activities in the country.
Arif further said the industrial sector will save 18-37 percent or Rs 5.27 to Rs 15.5 per unit under the package to help boost industrial production, growth and livelihoods.
The commercial consumers will be given a 34-47 percent saving Rs 13.46 to Rs 22.71 per unit subsidy in the package, the expert added.
It is pertinent to mention here, earlier, Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Laghari during a press conference in Islamabad on Saturday unveiled the Electricity Relief Package for the winter season for domestic, industrial, and commercial consumers.
He said electricity facility package will be effective from December 2024 to February 2025, adding that the production of industries will increase due to cheaper electricity.
The minister added that measures are being taken to improve the electricity transmission system as NTDC has been divided into three companies.
