ISLAMABAD: The District Monitoring Office of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a notice to Shoaib Shaheen, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for an alleged violation of the Code of Conduct (CoC) in Islamabad.
The notice states that Shoaib Shaheen breached the election Code of Conduct by organizing a car rally in Islamabad without obtaining prior permission from the relevant authorities.
The district monitoring officer emphasized that political parties or their leaders must seek approval before conducting public rallies related to the upcoming general election in 2024.
In response to the violation, the district monitoring office has summoned Shoaib Shaheen to appear either personally or through legal representation tomorrow.
Earlier, the ECP took action against CoC violators by removing political banners across the province of Sindh. Following the directives of ECP Commissioner Sharifullah, District Monitoring Officers conducted operations to take down flags, banners, and billboards in constituencies PS 104 and PS 105 in Karachi.
The electoral watchdog officials extended their efforts to other cities in Sindh, including Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Jacobabad, and Tharparkar, removing political banners from public spaces, parks, government buildings, and traffic signals.
The ECP commissioner for Sindh emphasized the need for strict implementation of the code of conduct, asserting that the ECP will not tolerate any negligence in ensuring transparent elections.
