Death toll hits 26 in Lyari building collapse, rescue operation still ongoing

Karachi: The tragic collapse of a building in the Lyari Baghdadi area of Karachi has resulted in the death of 26 people as of Friday morning.

Rescue teams have recovered four more bodies from the debris, and relief efforts are still underway.

It is recalled that a five-story residential building suddenly collapsed, trapping dozens of people beneath the rubble. Among the deceased are 15 men, 9 women, a boy, and a girl.

Rescue officials suspect that an additional 4 to 5 individuals may still be trapped under the debris.

Rescue teams are actively engaged in relief operations using heavy machinery and human body detectors.

Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi, speaking to the media, stated that the rescue operation might take a few more hours.

Rescue officials said that three portions were set up on each floor of the falling building. The building was declared a dangerous 3 years ago, but the residents did not leave the building, nor did the administration take action.
