ISLAMABAD: Former Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urged political parties to come together for a ‘New Democratic Charter,’ on Friday.
Addressing the media at the Parliament House, Bilawal emphasized the importance of building upon the ‘Charter of Democracy’ and fostering better cooperation among political parties. He highlighted the need to resolve the ongoing parliamentary impasse and address the country’s pressing issues.
"Our goal is not just to remain in power, but to tackle the fundamental challenges facing the people," Bilawal said, adding that if governance does not address these issues, it loses its purpose.
When asked about the possible extension of the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s tenure, Bilawal dismissed it as a personal issue. Instead, he advocated for constitutional amendments with a focus on their proper implementation.
He also recognized the influential role of Maulana Fazlur Rehman in the opposition and encouraged his constructive involvement where needed.
Commenting on governance, the PPP leader clarified that the party does not favor imposing Governor's rule, though he acknowledged it could be necessary if the situation demands it.
On the economic front, Bilawal stressed the urgent need to combat poverty and the increasing scarcity of resources.
He expressed support for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s proposal of a "Chartered Economy" and emphasized that any national economic plan should include input from all political stakeholders to be truly effective.
