SC suspends IHC order barring Justice Jahangiri from judicial work

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday suspended the order restraining Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court from performing his judicial duties.

The apex court issued the directive while hearing an appeal challenging the Islamabad High Court’s two-member bench order that had barred Justice Jahangiri from work.

During the proceedings, the Supreme Court issued notices to all parties concerned as well as the Attorney General’s Office and adjourned the hearing till tomorrow.

It may be recalled that a division bench comprising Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Azam Khan, had issued an order to stop Justice Tariq Mehmood Jehangiri as a judge.

The Division Bench issued a decree on the request of Mian Dawood, preventing Justice Tariq Mehmood Jehangiri from working as a judge till the decision of the Supreme Judicial Council, against which Justice Tariq Jehangiri filed a petition in the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the University of Karachi has canceled the law degree of Justice Tariq Mehmood Jehangiri of the Islamabad High Court and imposed a three -year ban.
