Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed for Qatar on Thursday to express solidarity and reinforce regional unity after the recent Israel’s airstrike in Doha.
According to a press release by the Foreign Office (FO), the prime minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
The FO emphasized that the visit highlights Pakistan’s steadfast support for Qatar’s security and sovereignty, as well as its dedication to peace and stability across the Middle East.
During his visit, PM Shehbaz is scheduled to meet with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha, where he will convey Pakistan’s heartfelt sympathies and unwavering support to the Qatari leadership and its people.
The prime minister’s visit follows the unprecedented Israeli airstrike on Qatari soil, which targeted residential buildings in Doha’s West Bay area—reportedly housing Hamas leaders—and triggered widespread international condemnation.
Qatar has condemned the attack as a “cowardly and criminal assault” and a “blatant violation of international law and Qatar’s sovereignty.”
Earlier this week, PM Shehbaz strongly condemned the airstrike, calling it a flagrant breach of sovereignty and a dangerous provocation that threatens regional peace and stability.
In a phone call with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the prime minister expressed Pakistan’s deepest sympathies and solidarity with the Qatari leadership, royal family, and people.
“The unlawful and heinous bombing by Israeli forces is a dastardly act, reflecting the leadership’s mindset willing to go to any lengths in pursuit of nefarious goals,” said PM Shehbaz, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
