MULTAN: A major flood wave is expected to enter Multan’s jurisdiction by this evening, prompting the evacuation of more than 300,000 people from low-lying areas.

According to officials, the dangerous surge in the Chenab River may reach Head Muhammad Wala later today, where authorities have decided to create a breach to protect urban settlements.

Residents have complained about the shortage of boats and inadequate arrangements for relocating livestock, expressing frustration over the administration’s response.

Meanwhile, near Jalalpur Pirwala, around 50,000 cusecs of water is flowing from the Sutlej River, inundating nearly 140 villages.

In Rajanpur, residents have begun evacuating from areas affected by low-level flooding amid warnings of a high flood wave. Meanwhile, in Bahawalpur, people living in vulnerable localities are being moved closer to the riverbanks as part of precautionary measures.

The authorities have also placed Tandlianwala tehsil of Faisalabad on high alert, with evacuation efforts underway to transfer residents from riverine and low-lying areas to safer locations.

It is pertinent to mention that rescue operations are underway by rescue officials, local volunteers, Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers in flood -hit areas in Punjab.
