LAHORE: In a historic milestone for Pakistan Railways, Lahore’s Nida Saleh Malik has become the country’s first-ever female train driver.

Fulfilling a childhood dream, Nida’s dedication, perseverance, and passion have shattered long-standing gender barriers in a traditionally male‑dominated profession.

Nida, who nurtured a fascination for locomotives from an early age, said the path to her achievement was not without challenges. “Initially, my family was opposed to the idea of me becoming a train driver,” she recalled. “But once they saw my commitment, everyone rallied behind me.”

Her appointment marks a significant step forward for gender equality within Pakistan’s transportation sector and serves as an inspiring example for young women nationwide. Nida intends to use her platform to encourage other women to pursue careers in non‑traditional fields.

Nida’s success will help foster a more inclusive work environment and inspire future generations. As she takes the controls of her first locomotive, Nida Saleh Malik stands as a testament to the power of ambition and resilience.

Nida Saleh is currently running the Orange Line train in Lahore, which leads to millions of citizens from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily. She performed  full services and security checks of the train before starting daily service so that the journey is safe and comfortable.

After completing his education, Nida stepped into practical life and put his dream into practice. "This is not just my success, but it is a ray of hope for every girl who is determined to do anything," he says.

Nida Saleh has not only brought pride to her city but to the entire nation by becoming Pakistan’s first female train driver. Her journey is a powerful reminder that with determination and dedication, no dream is too big to achieve.
