SARGODHA: Nazir Masih, the victim of mob violence for alleged blasphemy in Sargodha, succumbed to his injuries.
Spokesperson Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sargodha while confirming the death of Nazir Masih, who was injured in the Mujahid Colony incident, said that on May 25, an angry mob had tortured Nazir Masih on the charge of blasphemy.
The spokesman, Nazir Masih's house and shoe factory were also set on fire. Nazir Masih was under treatment in the hospital for 9 days.
The RPO spokesperson said that a case was registered against Nazir Masih on the charge of blasphemy, while a case was registered against more than 450 people for arson.
On the other hand, hospital sources say that according to the post-mortem report, Nazir Masih died due to severe head injuries. Nazir Masih underwent head surgery twice in Rawalpindi.

Earlier, Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi called for justice in the death case of Nazir Masih in Sargodha.
The PUC chairman, expressing deep grief over the killing, said in a statement that taking the law into one’s own hands in matters of blasphemy was both unlawful and illegal.
The issues of blasphemy and apostasy should be adjudicated by courts, not by any individual or group, he stressed. He extended condolences to Nazir Masih’s family, and called for a speedy trial of the accused involved in the crime.
Ashrafi said that the protection of non-Muslims living in Pakistan was the duty of both the state and its Muslim citizens.
