Khawaja Saad Rafique opposes NAB’s amendment ordinance

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former federal minister Khawaja Saad Rafique opposed the National Accountability Bureau’s amendment ordinance.

In his statement, Khawaja Saad Rafiq said that the law of changing physical remand from 14 days to 40 days is sad. He said that this black law cannot be supported and added that the ordinance should be withdrawn.

Khawaja Saad Rafiq also said that many innocent people have become victims of this law while  suspicious legislation is always inappropriate.

Khawaja Saad Rafiq said that the NAB law was made by a dictator which was used for shameful political purposes.

It should be noted that Acting President Yusuf Raza Gilani issued the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Amendment Ordinance.

Under the NAB Amendment Ordinance, the remand of NAB has been increased from 14 days to 40 days, while according to the NAB Amendment Ordinance, the punishment of the NAB officer for making a malicious case has been reduced from 5 years to 2 years.

Earlier, Acting President Yousuf Raza Gilani signed two ordinances on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which were promulgated following the approval by the federal cabinet.

The NAB ordinance extends the remand period of accused from 14 to 40 days. However, the sentence duration for the officer convicted of framing cases based on ill will has been reduced from five to two years.

Meanwhile, under the Elections Act (Amendment) Ordinance 2024, election tribunals will have retired judges as their members, besides serving judges.
