MULTAN: The first case was registered in Muzaffargarh under the controversial Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PECA) Amendment Bill 2025 and the accused was arrested.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing and Muzaffargarh Police took action. The accused spread false rumors of blasphemy on social media and shared a post to damage the reputation of the citizen.
The PECA Amendment Bill 2025 is quoted as the Social Media Protection and Regulatory Authority, whose headquarters will be held in Islamabad while offices will also be established in the provincial capitals.
Under the PECA Act, the authority will ensure the protection and rights of social media users and the authority will be authorized to register social media platforms.
The controversial Act states that the registration of the authority of social media platforms will be allowed to cancel and determine quality and the authority will be authorized to discipline the social media platform.
The authority will be authorized to issue a directive to the relevant agencies to remove illegal content from social media.
The Social Media Protection and Regulatory Authority will consist of 9 members. Secretary Interior, Chairman PTA and Chairman PEMRA will be a member of the Social Media Regulatory Authority.
The chairman and 5 members will be appointed for 5 years and journalists will be represented at the Social Media Protection and Regulatory Authority.

The 5 members will include a 10 -year experience journalist and software engineers, while the authority will include a lawyer, social media professional and IT Expert from the private sector.
