Dubai and Abu Dhabi authorities have cautioned drivers against allowing passengers to protrude from sunroofs or sit on open windows while vehicles are in motion, following several accidents last year resulting in injuries to individuals who fell from moving cars.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei emphasized the hazards posed by such actions to passengers and other road users.
Penalties for violations include vehicle impoundment for two months, a Dh2,000 fine, 23 traffic points, and an additional Dh50,000 for vehicle release.
Abu Dhabi Police's Traffic and Security Directorate reiterated the importance of obeying traffic regulations.
Al Mazrouei underscored the risks associated with sitting on windows or extending heads from moving vehicle sunroofs, citing the potential for serious injuries and increased collision risks.
He urged collective efforts to reduce accidents, urging citizens to adhere to traffic rules and cultivate positive behaviors for road safety.
Al Mazrouei stressed the significance of upholding regulations to prevent avoidable accidents.
