BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has reaffirmed China’s commitment to securing a ceasefire and ending the conflict in Gaza.
Wang noted that the two-year-long war in Gaza has created an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, adding that Israeli actions in violation of international law are undermining the two-state solution and destabilizing the Middle East.
He stressed that the international community must take three essential steps to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict: ensure an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, uphold the Palestinians’ right to govern their own territory, and firmly safeguard the two-state solution.
The Chinese Foreign Minister further urged the global community to support Palestine’s full membership at the United Nations under the two-state framework.
Earlier, a high-level summit on the Palestine issue, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, will be held today at the United Nations to discuss the two-state solution.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to participate in the conference.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session from today until September 26.
The spokesperson said the Prime Minister will emphasize the right to self-determination of both Palestinians and Kashmiris, while also highlighting the Gaza crisis and the hardships faced by the Palestinian people during his address to the General Assembly.
