David Willey opts out of IPL 2024 citing personal reasons

David Willey, an all-rounder from England, has chosen to withdraw from the ongoing 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) due to personal reasons. Initially, he had only opted out of the start of this year’s IPL, but he has now decided to withdraw from the entire tournament.

Willey, a 34-year-old left-arm fast bowler, was purchased by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for his base price of INR 2 crore during the mini-auction in Dubai last year. To replace him in the squad, LSG has brought in fast bowler Matt Henry.

Willey’s decision follows a hectic schedule, as he has played for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and the Multan Sultans in the ILT20 and the Pakistan Super League (PSL), respectively. He also participated in the World Cup held in India before joining the IPL.

In a similar vein, Jason Roy, an opening batter from England who was slated to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2024, also withdrew due to personal reasons. Roy had previously withdrawn from the 2020 IPL while playing for the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the 2022 IPL with the Gujarat Titans (GT).
