ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif called on Maulana Fazlur Rehman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), seeking his support for the Prime Minister position in the upcoming elections.
Sources familiar with the meeting disclosed that Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed strong reservations regarding the election results during the discussion.
Nawaz Sharif assured him that his concerns would be addressed. Despite Nawaz Sharif's efforts to persuade him to join the government, Maulana Fazlur Rehman continued to express his reservations.
Nawaz Sharif also urged Maulana Fazlur Rehman not to boycott the Prime Minister's election and to consider supporting his brother, Shehbaz Sharif.
Additionally, the two leaders deliberated on the current political landscape of the country.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures including PML-N leaders Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, and Saad Rafiq, as well as JUI-F's Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali, and Noor Alam Khan.
After the meeting, Rana Sanaullah addressed the media, stating that all national issues were discussed, and there was also a one-on-one conversation between Nawaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
He emphasized that Nawaz Sharif's purpose was not solely to seek support for the Prime Minister's election but to discuss the country's political situation.
It's worth mentioning that earlier, Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced that his party would not participate in the election process for the National Assembly speaker, deputy speaker, Prime Minister, and President. He declared that the JUI-F would sit in the opposition benches in the parliament and would not be involved in the election of the speaker, deputy speaker, and Prime Minister.
