In a rare display of unity, the National Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution expressing strong support for the people of Palestine amid ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza.
During a session chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, all political parties — from both the government and the opposition — stood together to condemn what they called “criminal Israeli crimes” against innocent Palestinians.
The resolution, presented by Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, condemned Israel’s continued military actions in Gaza and noted that more than 1,600 Palestinians have been killed since the latest violence began on March 18.
“The House expresses full solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters and strongly condemns the silence of the international community,” the resolution stated.
Among its key demands, the National Assembly resolution called for:
Immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
Recognition of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations
Stronger action from the global community to end the violence
The session was later adjourned indefinitely.
During the session, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar took a firm stance against politicizing the issue of Palestine. Without naming anyone, he criticized those attempting to gain political mileage and called for unity on the matter.
“Politics should not be done on the Palestinian issue. This House must remain sacred for such discussions,” he said.
The minister also reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm position on not recognizing Israel, saying, “It is written on our passports that travel to Israel is not permitted. We do not accept Israel nor believe in its legitimacy.”
He went on to commend South Africa for its bold move in taking Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over allegations of genocide.
Ending on an emotional note, the minister said, “We love the land of Palestine. Let our actions and words send a strong message — we stand with Palestine in every situation.”
