Heavy rains have caused widespread destruction in northern Pakistan, stranding numerous tourists in the scenic Kaghan Valley. The Mahandri Bridge, the only connection between Naran and Kaghan, has been swept away by rising waters, cutting off access to these popular tourist spots.
Current Situation of Naran Kaghan
Bridge Collapse:The destruction of the Mahandri Bridge has severed a crucial transportation link, trapping approximately 10,000 to 15,000 tourists in the valley. With no way to leave, visitors find themselves confined to hotels, guesthouses, or temporary shelters set up by local authorities.
Glacier Meltdown:
Adding to the turmoil, a glacier meltdown has raised the water level of the Kunhar River, which runs through Naran, Mahandri, Kaghan, and Babusar. Landslides have further worsened the situation in Kaghan Valley.
The resilient locals of Naran and Mandhri are now working tirelessly to construct a temporary bridge to help evacuate stranded tourists and reopen the route. However, it is expected to take at least 4-5 days to complete.
Naran Kaghan Traffic Update Today:
The Chilas route, which passes through Babusar and Chilas before reaching Besham, is the only alternative route out of Naran and Kaghan. However, this route is currently experiencing heavy traffic jams as many panicked tourists are trying to leave the area as quickly as possible.
