The Federal Minister for Energy, Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, has announced a substantial reduction in electricity bills for April, offering relief to consumers nationwide.
The minister disclosed a decrease of Rs 3.82 per unit on electricity bills for the month. This reduction is credited to adjustments in both quarterly assessments and fuel prices.
Explaining the breakdown, Leghari stated that the fuel price adjustment for April has dropped to Rs 4.92 per unit, down from Rs 7.6 per unit in the previous month.
This translates to a decrease of Rs 2.14 per unit in fuel costs. Additionally, the first-quarter adjustment has been lowered, resulting in a further reduction of Rs 1.68 per unit.
Leghari emphasized the government's commitment to shielding people from financial strain, citing the Prime Minister's directive.
He underscored the significance of these adjustments in determining monthly power generation costs, which directly affect consumers' electricity bills.
Leghari also highlighted the crucial role of NEPRA in setting reference tariffs for the year and subsequent adjustments.
Furthermore, he assured that NEPRA diligently reviews and determines fuel price adjustments to uphold transparency and fairness in electricity billing.
Leghari stressed the importance of receiving this relief to mitigate the country's deficit. NEPRA determines fuel price adjustments monthly, providing some alleviation to Pakistani consumers amid escalating costs.
