Hasan Nawaz, the son of former Prime Minister and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, has been declared bankrupt by the London High Court.
According to the sources, the official record-keeping journal of the United Kingdom, Hasan Nawaz’s bankruptcy stems from a tax case involving the UK's Tax and Revenue Department.
The ruling, issued under case number 694 of 2023, was officially released on April 29, 2024, while the case was initially filed on August 25, 2023.
Sources close to Hasan Nawaz indicated that his legal team is thoroughly reviewing the case and intends to respond to the court's decision shortly.
The civil case against Hasan Nawaz was filed by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), with Kaur Maxwell serving as his legal representative.
Under UK law, a bankruptcy order is a legal step in the personal insolvency process, issued by the court to declare an individual bankrupt. Such orders are only published in the London Gazette when provided by The Insolvency Service.
A bankrupt individual is prohibited from acting as a company director or participating in company management unless they obtain court permission. Despite the bankruptcy order, Hasan Nawaz remains a director of several companies in the UK.
