The federal government is expected to increase the salaries of the government employees by 10 percent in upcoming Budget 2025-26.
Reports said the authorities are holding talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to provide relief to salaried class individuals.
The federal government is expected to present the budget for the next fiscal year 2025-26 on June 10, where it will officially announce the proposed salary increases for employees.
A day before this, a special committee of the government assured employees that their demands—including pension reforms and salary hikes—will be included in the upcoming budget. It was also mentioned that Rana Sanaullah will chair a meeting next week to decide on the issue of leave encashment.
According to reports, an important meeting of the special committee, led by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, was held in Islamabad. Officials from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Law and Justice, the Establishment Division, and representatives from the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA), including Chief Coordinator Rahman Bajwa, attended the meeting.
The meeting focused on reviewing how well the government has followed through on the written agreement made with employees regarding their demands. After the meeting, Rahman Bajwa told the media that Dr. Tariq Fazal assured them the government would fulfill its promises. He also mentioned that all valid demands, including the Prime Minister’s relief package and leave encashment, will be addressed.
Bajwa added that finance ministry officials confirmed the government’s commitment to honoring the agreement with employees. He said that on the day of the budget, millions of employees from across the country will gather in Islamabad to see whether the agreement is being implemented. If the government keeps its promises, Dr. Tariq Fazal and Rana Sanaullah will be celebrated and their names will be remembered with honor. If not, they will also join the employees in protest.
In response to another question, Bajwa said it was agreed during the meeting that both the government and the employees’ union will prepare their own working papers to present in the next committee meeting.
