ISLAMABAD: Charles Glass, a British journalist, was denied permission to meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail and subsequently sought intervention from the Ministry of Interior.
In a letter to the Ministry, Glass asserted that he was not allowed to meet Imran Khan despite a court order permitting the visit.
He expressed his desire to meet his friend Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
Earlier, the Ministry of Interior had canceled Charles Glass's visa on Wednesday, preventing him from meeting the PTI founder and sending him back to his country. Sources revealed that Glass also emailed Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, requesting permission to meet his friend Imran Khan.
It is noteworthy that the former prime minister has been imprisoned since August 2023, with convictions in the Toshakhana, Cipher, and Iddat cases. Although his convictions have been suspended, he remains implicated in cases related to the May 9 riots.
On January 30, a special court sentenced both the former prime minister and PTI founder, Imran Khan, and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to ten years in jail each for their involvement in the cipher case. They were accused of conspiring to misuse the contents of the cipher for nefarious purposes. The court's verdict stated that the prosecution had sufficient evidence to support the charges. The FIR was registered on August 15 under the Official Secrets Act, following a complaint by the Home Secretary.
On January 31, an Accountability Court sentenced Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 14 years in prison each in the Toshakhana case.
The verdict, delivered by Judge Muhammad Bashir, also disqualified them from holding any public office for ten years and imposed a fine of Rs787 million.
They were accused of marrying within the three-month "iddat period" following a divorce. Additionally, in February, both were sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs500,000 each in the ‘un-Islamic’ iddat case.
