Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the first phase of the Punjab Motorcycle Scheme 2024, aiming to empower students by distributing 20,000 bikes to those enrolled in degree colleges and universities across various cities.
The collaboration between the Punjab government and the Bank of Punjab ensures the availability of 19,000 petrol bikes and 1,000 electric bikes through interest-free installment plans.
This initiative targets students in Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, and Lahore initially, with the application deadline set for April 29.
Students have the option to apply for either petrol or electric bikes, with financing capped at Rs250,000 for electric bikes and Rs150,000 for petrol bikes. If a student chooses a bike exceeding these limits, they must cover the additional cost upfront to the Bank of Punjab.
Female students are eligible to apply for petrol bikes under the Punjab Motorcycle Scheme, promoting gender equality.
Both female and male students can apply for electric and petrol bikes, including options like Scootie and Motorbike versions, as stated on the official website.
This inclusive approach not only encourages gender equality but also promotes sustainable transportation solutions through electric bikes.
