Allu Arjun’s highly anticipated sequel, Pushpa 2: The Rule, witnessed a dramatic surge in box office collections over the weekend, following the South Indian superstar’s arrest in a controversial stampede case. The film’s domestic earnings reportedly jumped by 74%, with an overall increase of at least 70%, leaving fans speculating whether the incident was a strategic publicity stunt.

According to reports, Arjun was arrested by Hyderabad’s Chikkadapally police on Friday, December 6, in connection with a tragic stampede at Sandhya Theatre during the screening of Pushpa 2, which resulted in a woman’s death. The actor was placed in 14-day judicial custody but was granted four-week interim bail by the Telangana High Court the next day.

Amid the controversy, the film earned over INR 1200 crores in worldwide ticket sales. Social media was abuzz with theories about the timing of the arrest. One user commented, “All this drama to have an approximately 100% jump in sales.” Another questioned, “Was this whole arrest scene scripted as well?” Meanwhile, a fan sarcastically noted, “Mission jail successful.”

The action-packed sequel stars Allu Arjun as Pushpa Raj, Fahadh Faasil as antagonist SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, and Rashmika Mandanna reprising her role as Srivalli. Despite the controversy, Pushpa 2 continues to dominate box office charts worldwide.
