The Toyota Corolla has secured its position as the leading car in Pakistan, with car sales in the country reaching 50,640 units during the first quarter of the fiscal year 2017-18. This marks an increase of 22.3% compared to the sale of 41,405 units during the same period last year.
On a year-on-year basis, the sale of passenger cars saw a rise from 14,088 units in September 2016 to 15,639 units in September 2017, indicating an 11% increase, according to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA).
Breaking down the numbers, the sales of Toyota Corolla cars during the first quarter of 2017-18 (July-September) amounted to 12,765 units, slightly higher than the 12,655 units sold in the first quarter of the previous fiscal year.
Similarly, Honda Cars witnessed an increase of 30 percent during the period under review as it increased from 8,059 units last year to 10,534 units in current year.
However, the sales of Suzuki Swift experienced a decline in the corresponding period. In the first quarter of 2016-17, 1,046 units were sold, while during the same period in the current fiscal year, sales recorded a negligible drop of 2 units, totaling 1,044 units.

On the other hand, the sale of Suzuki Cultus saw a notable increase of 56%, reaching 5,181 units in July-September 2017-18 compared to 3,322 units in the same period of the previous year.
Suzuki WagonR also observed a significant rise, increasing from 3,385 units in the first three months of the fiscal year 2016-17 to 5,789 units.
The sale of Suzuki Mehran, often referred to as the national car of Pakistan, rose from 8,248 units in July-September 2016-17 to 10,516 units in the same period of the current fiscal year.
Meanwhile, Suzuki Bolan experienced a slight increase, going from 4,690 units in the first three months of the fiscal year 2016-17 to 4,811 units in the same period of the current fiscal year.
