During the 85th EDF Board meeting chaired by Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan on September 20, 2024, the funding was confirmed to support the completion of the Expo Centre. This facility aims to provide a venue for international exhibitions, benefiting local entrepreneurs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Analysts believe the establishment of the Expo Centre will significantly enhance trade opportunities and economic growth in the region. It will serve as a platform for local businesses to showcase their products and attract national and international investors, leveraging Peshawar's strategic location for trade with Central Asian countries.
The Expo Centre is expected to create numerous job opportunities, boost local employment rates, and foster cultural exchange and tourism, contributing to the overall development of KPK’s economy.
In addition, the EDF Board approved 20 out of 29 financial proposals totaling over Rs 8.5 billion, targeting sectors such as textiles, food, agriculture, and gems and jewelry, while also promoting Pakistan’s branding at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
The Board emphasized the need for direct communication between EDF and exporters to facilitate better market intelligence and targeted support for the business community. Plans for various international exhibitions within Pakistan were also discussed to enhance the visibility of Pakistani exporters globally.
