K-Electric has filed a petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), agreeing to refund Rs0.16 per unit to its consumers.
This refund, part of the monthly Fuel Charge Adjustments (FCA) for September 2024, totals approximately Rs247 million.
NEPRA has scheduled a meeting on October 31 to review the petition and assess whether the FCA is justified. They will also examine if K-Electric followed standard procedures in purchasing electricity from external sources or generating power at its own plants.
In its petition, K-Electric stated that the FCA aligns with NEPRA's previous decisions on provisional fuel cost adjustments for the period from July 2023 to June 2024.
These adjustments are based on parameters outlined in the Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) for 2017-2023. The completion of the MYT for 2024-2030 is required for future adjustments to take effect.
The FCA for September 2024 was calculated using the interim tariff established in March 2023. K-Electric's petition provides detailed calculations and supporting documents for NEPRA's review.
This refund is part of K-Electric’s commitment to making necessary adjustments to fuel charges in line with regulatory requirements. The upcoming meeting will determine whether the refund is approved and if K-Electric has adhered to NEPRA’s guidelines during its operations.
