- The Fifth Labour Sports Tournament in Dubai features 11 sports items.
- The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) organized the event.
- The tug-of-war competition concluded last week with 525 laborers.
The Dubai Sports Council (DSC), in collaboration with the Permanent Committee of Labour Affairs in Dubai and Dubai Police, organized the tournament, featuring 11 sports items such as basketball, football, road racing, arm wrestling, badminton, volleyball, swimming, tug of war, yoga, cricket, and kabaddi. Notably, this edition marks the inaugural participation of women in the volleyball and badminton events.
Abdulla Lashkari Mohammad, Secretary-General of the Permanent Committee of Labour Affairs in Dubai, emphasized that the tournament, held under the theme ‘Their Happiness is Our Goal,’ underscores Dubai's commitment to the well-being of all segments of the community.
“Laborers are crucial contributors to our ongoing development. The event has been organized to provide them an opportunity to take a break from their daily work routine and participate in their favorite sports while fostering a sense of community and belonging. More than just a competition, this event is also a celebration of Dubai’s cultural diversity, bringing together individuals from various backgrounds to share in the joy of sports.”
Last week, the tug-of-war competition concluded at Al Quoz Industrial Area, with 525 laborers from 35 company teams participating. Wade Adams Contracting Co. secured victory in the event, with Desert Group Co. and Emrill Co. securing second and third places, respectively. Abdulla Lashkari Mohammad honored the competition's winners.
Since 2010, when the Dubai Sports Council initiated 'The First Labour Sports Festival,' the council has been launching sports initiatives for laborers, encouraging thousands of laborers from across the emirate to engage in various contests.
