ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday expressed frustration over the delay in the ruling on the iddat case against former premier Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi.
PTI spokesperson Rauf Hassan during a press conference claimed that the case was a result of political vendetta and accused the authorities of using delaying tactics to prolong Imran Khan's imprisonment.
Hasan criticized Khawar Maneka, the former husband of Bushra Bibi, for his inappropriate conduct and abusive language towards Imran Khan during the court hearings.
He asserted that these actions were "unbecoming and unacceptable."
The PTI spokesperson alleged that false cases were being filed against the PTI founder to keep him behind bars and warned of a possible fourth case related to the Toshakhana scandal.
Hasan demanded adherence to the constitution and law, calling for Imran Khan's release, and predicted the downfall of the current government if Khan were freed.
He described the situation as a "murder of justice" over the past two years and expressed fears that the former prime minister would remain incarcerated for an extended period.
Imran Khan has been imprisoned since August of the previous year following his conviction in the Toshakhana case.
Earlier in the day, an Islamabad district and sessions court did not announce the already reserved verdict in the Iddat case against Khan and Bushra Bibi.
District and Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjumand requested the transfer of the case, delaying the judgment.
A video broadcast showed Khawar Maneka being assaulted outside the court by individuals who appeared to be lawyers. Women reportedly hurled bottles at Maneka after his derogatory remarks during the hearing.
Background on Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi's Marriage,
Imran Khan married Bushra Bibi in February 2018 in a private ceremony in Lahore. The nikah was performed by Mufti Saeed, with former PTI leader Awn Chaudhary and former SAPM Zulfi Bukhari as witnesses.
Last year, Khawar Maneka claimed that the marriage was illegal and against Sharia laws, accusing them of marrying within the three-month "Iddat period" following Bushra Bibi's divorce and alleging fornication.
The reserved verdict was announced by Judge Qudratullah, sentencing Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500,000 each for their 'un-Islamic' marriage during the Iddat period.
