PESHAWAR: The chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman strongly opposed the Operation Azm-e-Istehkam during a grand Jirga on Thursday, arguing that previous operations had hindered the progress of tribal areas.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized that after the earlier operation, people returning to their homes in FATA found their residences destroyed during the military actions.
He criticized the government for attributing incidents of terrorism in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province to Afghanistan. "When asked how terrorists managed to cross the Pak-Afghan border despite the fence, the answer was that the fence had been pulled down," he stated.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman suggested that Pakistan addresses infiltration issues with Iran through dialogue and should adopt a similar approach with Afghanistan.
"Stability between Pakistan and Afghanistan is mutually important. As a responsible state, we must negotiate to resolve conflicts," he recommended.
The JUI-F chief expressed frustration with hasty decisions and provocations, stating that such actions destabilize the region. He questioned whether the goal was to destabilize Afghanistan instead of stabilizing it and urged for commitments to peaceful resolutions and regional stability.
